Making Honey Hearts is a labor of love!
In 2017, after meeting Daniel and hearing about his challenges with FOP, Bee Keeper Shelley Rice wanted to do something to help, and the Bee-lieve in a Cure Honey Hearts came to life! Shelley donated her honey harvest and family and friends came in to help bottle, tag and sell the jars to raise funds for research to cure FOP. We've raised over $60,000 in the last 7 years and are excited to be back for the holidays in 2024! |

Meet Shelley & her beesHouston's Bee Lady - Shelley Rice
Bee Keeper / Founder of All Things Bees Over the last 20 years, Shelley has gleaned a vast amount of knowledge and experience from bee keeping. Shelley loves ALL aspects of it, and it is truly her passion. She educates and brings awareness to the important role bees have on our existence and planet. Among the many bee related adventures, she also privately manages commercial and residential hives throughout the greater Houston area and surrounding counties. She specializes in raw honey and honey comb, with all proceeds benefiting her "love and service" projects. Her honey is delicious local, small batch, unfiltered and unprocessed honey. It's as good and delicious as it gets! Thank you so much, Shelley!! And thank you beautiful bees for all your hard work!! Honey Fun Facts... Shelf life - Honey can last for thousands of years because its low moisture content and natural acidity make it inhospitable to bacteria and microorganisms. Production- A honey bee worker only produces about 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime. A healthy bee colony can produce 60–100 pounds of honey each year. Health benefits - Honey is a natural energy boost, and can also be used to treat minor burns and scrapes and as a remedy for sore throats and coughs. It's antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory. Color and flavor - Honey's color and flavor vary depending on the flowers the bees visit. Storage - To store honey, keep it in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Avoid refrigerating honey, as it can cause crystallization. If it does crystalize, it's still good! Warm bottle in hot water (under 140 degrees) and the crystals will dissolve. |
